Previously, running through the three—the dharma-function and so forth—by means of the five periods merely accomplished that each of the five periods has the three, the dharma-function and so forth, causing one to know that all three tiers are wondrous in the Lotus. Hence, running through the various sūtras by means of the five flavors, confronting text with text to distinguish the coarse and the wondrous, then the preceding six gates must all employ the five flavors, causing all teachings to be nothing other than the three, method and so forth, not lacking the separate distinction between coarse and wondrous, as well as all being wondrous. How much more so running the ten pairs of the various sūtras completely through the five flavors! Because the doorways are distinct, this reproof is unnecessary. Just as section by section in the Profound Meaning has the five flavors, if these five were absent, then in the present single section and single phrase, the textual section would not differ from before; therefore, it is clarified everywhere.
