"Yin" (lineage) means to succeed and to continue. From "If Śāriputra receives the prediction" to "not cut off": this verifies that conferring the prediction is to guide the capacities of living beings, which is true for both the provisional and the real; hence it says "future living beings" and so forth. Further cultivating a pure land to form bonds with living beings, when Śāriputra achieves [buddhahood] and opens the provisional and reveals the real, then the buddha-seed will not be cut off in that direction, and conditions of capacity will ripen in that land. Among them there are also those who were seeded under Śākyamuni and whose liberation returns to Śāriputra; therefore it was necessary in this assembly to speak with manifest clarity. Under "If Śāriputra had no one to transform," it conversely uses nonexistence to explain existence. If Śāriputra himself had no capacity to achieve buddhahood, then how could those transformed by Śāriputra achieve it? Therefore, this is used to show that now [the Dharma] is made to have a lodgment. Where the sūtra says "finally pass away," it refers to the time of nirvāṇa.
