Answer: Entering an ordinary room merely shelters oneself; the Buddha’s room universally intends to shelter others. Therefore loving-kindness and compassion are called the Tathāgata’s room. Since one wishes to universally transform all sentient beings, one completely endures defilements and insults; adorning oneself with this, there is no ugliness it does not cover. Therefore gentle forbearance is called the Tathāgata’s robe. The principle of emptiness is vast and open, capable of guiding all existences; sitting upon this and widely propagating, there is no condition it does not encompass. Therefore the understanding of emptiness is the Tathāgata’s seat.
