答：《大智度論》云「觀諸品中意故，明說波若因緣。」今還依論意，故作此釋。釋論是解經之模軌，欲釋大乘經者必須影之也。

Answer: The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: 'Discerning the meaning within the various chapters, it clarifies the causes and conditions for speaking the Prajñā[pāramitā].' Now, likewise relying on the meaning of that treatise, I make this explanation. The Expository Treatise is the model and standard for interpreting sūtras; anyone who wishes to interpret a Mahāyāna sūtra must take it as a mirror.
