問：發軫即學二乘，如《婆沙論》、《釋論》等云「緣覺極遲則為百劫，極速則為四世；聲聞極遲六十劫，極速三世。」小乘既障大者，習小時久應是鈍根，習小時近應為利根，二者之間應是中根。

Question: If from the outset one studies the two vehicles—as the *Vibhāṣā* and *Explanatory Treatise* (*Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa*) say: 'For pratyekabuddhas, the slowest takes a hundred kalpas, and the fastest takes four lifetimes; for śrāvakas, the slowest takes sixty kalpas, and the fastest takes three lifetimes'—since the lesser vehicle hinders the great, those who practiced the lesser for a long time should be of dull capacity, those who practiced the lesser for a short time should be of sharp capacity, and between the two should be middling capacity.
