答：義有四句，一者聞三悟三，二者聞一悟一，此二易明。三者聞一悟三，如聞大涅槃教，而成羅漢。四者聞三悟一，即初業是也。

Answer: There are four propositions in principle: first, hearing the three and awakening to the three; second, hearing the one and awakening to the one—these two are easy to understand. Third, hearing the one and awakening to the three, as in hearing the great nirvāṇa teaching and becoming an arhat. Fourth, hearing the three and awakening to the one, which is precisely the initial undertaking.
