答：此據前義耳。始終乃有三機，當時無有大機，以大化不得，故欲入滅。又但用一化三，進無得益之功、退有起謗之罪，故欲入滅。此據後義也。

Answer: This is based on the former meaning. From beginning to end there were indeed the three spiritual capacities, but at that time there was no great spiritual capacity; because they could not be converted through the great, he wished to enter extinction. Furthermore, if he merely used the one to convert the three, advancing brought no benefit of attainment, while retreating risked the fault of giving rise to slander; therefore he wished to enter extinction. This is based on the latter meaning.
