答：義實爾也。若三乘人皆為求涅槃為正者，但宜取涅槃行聲聞行便足。但緣覺人鄙聲聞從師而智便鈍，故求自然慧欲得利根。菩薩復鄙緣覺智鈍不能化物，故求佛智也。

Answer: In meaning, it is indeed so. If the people of all three vehicles primarily sought nirvāṇa, it would suffice merely to take nirvāṇa and practice the śrāvaka practice. However, the pratyekabuddha despises the śrāvaka's following a teacher and thereby having dull wisdom, and so seeks spontaneous wisdom, desiring to obtain sharp faculties. The bodhisattva further despises the pratyekabuddha's dull wisdom and inability to transform beings, and so seeks the Buddha's wisdom.
