Answer: People of the two vehicles originally maintained that body and wisdom are impermanent, and that the three virtues are incomplete. If the great carriage now were also to be impermanent, how could it draw the two vehicles? It is precisely by means of the eternally abiding myriad virtues that people of the two vehicles are made to joyfully seek it. If so, then the great carriage in the cause is the conditioned myriad practices, while the great carriage of fruition-virtue is the eternally abiding myriad virtues. The eternally abiding myriad virtues are of one single substance; it is merely in terms of distinct aspects that the myriad virtues serve as adornments.
