答：於他為難，於今是通。故〈方便品〉云「為此諸佛子說是大乘經」，既稱說是經者，當知《波若》之時已是說《法華》也。但教菩薩故作波若名，未教二乘不作法華稱耳。此義已如前說也。

Answer: This is a difficulty for others, but for our present view it is resolved. Thus the "Expedient Means" chapter says: "For the sake of these disciples of the Buddha, I preached this Mahāyāna sūtra." Since it states that it preached "this sūtra," one should know that at the time of the Prajñā[-pāramitā] it was already preaching the Lotus Sūtra. It was merely that because it was teaching bodhisattvas, it was given the name Prajñā; since it was not yet teaching the two vehicles, it was not given the title Lotus. This meaning has already been explained above.
