答：授記經者，正取文言為經，故以能記之言為記也。又本記前人作佛，又取所記名記，如目連記。兩等三能所合目，易知也。

Answer: As for the vyākaraṇa-sūtras, taking precisely the textual words as scripture, it is called "prediction" from the words that are able to predict. Furthermore, originally predicting that the person before one will become a Buddha, it also takes the name "prediction" from that which is predicted, as in the prediction of Maudgalyāyana. The three [perspectives], including both and the combination of subject and object as the designation, are easily understood.
