答：凡夫善不能出分段，二乘善不能動出變易。又有二種闡提：一凡夫闡提、二聖人闡提。凡夫不信出三界者，名凡夫闡提。二乘不信一乘，名聖人闡提。破凡夫闡提始生小信，破二乘闡提始生菩薩十信也，因此轉悟方入菩薩道。

Answer: The wholesome deeds of ordinary persons cannot transcend fragmentary [saṃsāra], and the wholesome deeds of the two vehicles cannot stir and transcend transformative [saṃsāra]. Furthermore, there are two kinds of icchantikas: first, ordinary person icchantikas; second, noble person icchantikas. Ordinary persons who do not believe in transcending the three realms are called ordinary person icchantikas. Followers of the two vehicles who do not believe in the one vehicle are called noble person icchantikas. Overcoming the ordinary person icchantika is when lesser faith first arises; overcoming the two-vehicle icchantika is when the ten faiths of a bodhisattva first arise, and because of this, having transformed their understanding, they then enter the bodhisattva path.
