答：如前十義及惡道中說。又唯有五乘，故但度五百。人天乘是三百，二乘是二百，故佛乘度此五百，以聲聞乘度三百，緣覺乘度四百，佛乘度五百，故不得多少。此明一人始終度五百，亦得五人度五百。如《大經》一人具七、七人具七也。

Answer: As explained previously regarding the ten meanings and within the evil road. Furthermore, there are only five vehicles, which is why one crosses only five hundred. The human and deva vehicles are three hundred, and the two vehicles are two hundred; therefore, the Buddha vehicle crosses these five hundred, since the śrāvaka vehicle crosses three hundred, the pratyekabuddha vehicle crosses four hundred, and the Buddha vehicle crosses five hundred, and so there can be neither more nor less. This explains that one person from beginning to end crosses five hundred, and it can also be that five persons cross five hundred, just as the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra says that one person is endowed with seven, or seven persons are endowed with seven.
