問：但應如生公及注經釋之。所以然者，唯一高原就中求水，有近有遠；唯一法華教中求佛，生三慧為近、不生三慧為遠。若以《法華》前教為遠、《法華》為近者，乃是異原，何名一原耶？

Question: One should simply explain it as did Master Dao-sheng and the Commentary on the Sūtra. Why is this? There is only a single high plateau, and seeking water within it, there is near and far; within only the single teaching of the Lotus, seeking buddhahood, giving rise to the three wisdoms is near and not giving rise to the three wisdoms is far. If taking the teachings before the Lotus Sūtra as far and the Lotus Sūtra as near, these would be different plateaus; how could it be called a single plateau?
