答：純化菩薩為舍那耳。大乘佛有三乘雜眾，復是對小明大，故猶是釋迦也。又示唯是一長者，隨緣所見。如唯一佛，或見舍那、或見為釋迦，或見二佛異、或見猶是一佛，或見是應身、或見為法身。二乘之人昔並未悟，今方解了耳。是故此文，或作二佛異譬或作同譬也。

Answer: Converting bodhisattvas purely is Rocana. The Mahāyāna Buddha has a mixed assembly of the three vehicles, and moreover, it clarifies the great in contrast to the small; therefore, it is still Śākyamuni. Furthermore, it shows that there is only one elder, seen according to the capacities [of beings]. Just as there is only one Buddha, some see him as Rocana, some see him as Śākyamuni, some see the two Buddhas as different, some see that they are still one Buddha, some see him as the response body (saṃbhogakāya), and some see him as the dharmakāya. In the past, the people of the two vehicles did not understand any of this; only now do they understand. Therefore, this text sometimes makes a metaphor of the difference between the two Buddhas, and sometimes makes a metaphor of their identity.
