答：此是隨業所見，可得是異質同處，此明報土也。又得是明應土義，根緣應見穢以得悟，示之以穢，乃至淨等亦爾，故不相礙也。

Answer: This is seen according to karma; it can be taken as different substances occupying the same place, which explains the retribution land. It can also be taken as explaining the meaning of the responsive land: when capacities and conditions ought to see defilement in order to attain awakening, it is shown to them as defilement, and so forth up to purity likewise; therefore they do not obstruct each other.
