1.70

Furthermore, wishing to teach the three kinds of purification of the buddhas, he preached this sūtra: first, the five precepts and ten wholesome deeds to purify the three paths; second, preaching the four truths and the twelve links of causes and conditions to purify the three realms; third, preaching the Vaipulya one vehicle to purify the two vehicles. Endowed with these three purifications, he causes all sentient beings to emerge from the burning house within and without the three realms; hence he preached this sūtra.
