Furthermore, wishing to clarify that the two wisdoms—provisional and real—mutually assist and accomplish each other, he preached this sūtra. Why is this so? Without the provisional, there is no way to discern the real; without the real, there is no way to illuminate the provisional. Relying on the real, the provisional is aroused; relying on the provisional, the real is revealed. Because the provisional reveals the real, the provisional assists the real; because the real gives rise to the provisional, the real assists the provisional. Although the applications of wisdom by the buddhas of the three times are many, they do not go beyond these two. Yet those who are deluded about the fundamental tenet either grasp the provisional and lose the real, or cling to the real and abandon the provisional. Wishing now to open and reveal the mutual assistance and accomplishment of the two wisdoms of provisional and real, he preached this sūtra.
