Answer: There are also four propositions: first, using the three to reveal the one; second, using the one to reveal the three; third, using the three to reveal the three; fourth, using the one to reveal the one. The first two propositions are as stated before. As for using the three to reveal the three and using the one to reveal the one: saying that the past three differed from the present one, these three were outside the one; the present one differed from the past three, this one was outside the three; therefore, the one was not the one of the three, and the three were not the three of the one. Such 'one' and 'three' were entirely attachments to views. Now, to break this defect, it is said that 'Within the one Buddha vehicle, he discriminates and teaches the three'; therefore, the three are the three of the one. 'That which you practice is the bodhisattva path'; therefore, the one is the one of the three. Since the three are the three of the one, how could the three differ from the one? Since the one is the one of the three, how could the one differ from the three? Hence this is named the meaning of the dependent arising of three and one. Using the present dependently arisen three and one to reveal the three and one of self-nature, and also using the three and one of self-nature to reveal the dependently arisen three and one, is therefore called using the three to reveal the three and using the one to reveal the one.
