Answer: Some say bodhisattvas also have receptive understanding, but the *Saddharmapuṇḍarīka-sūtra* mostly does not exhaustively record it. Thus the 'Skillful Means' chapter says: 'When bodhisattvas hear this Dharma, / The net of doubts is completely eliminated'—this is the proof. Some say: śrāvakas have the illness of grasping at difference and also have the delusion of clinging to their own [attainment], so [the sūtra] directly demolishes them; therefore they have receptive understanding. Bodhisattvas do not have the illness of clinging to their own [attainment]; even if they had the notion that the great differs from the small or that the small differs from the great, believing that bodhisattvas themselves become buddhas while the two vehicles do not become buddhas, once they hear the Lotus they immediately receive and awaken to it. However, demolishing the three and returning to the one is directly for the two vehicles and secondarily for bodhisattvas; therefore it does not relate the bodhisattvas' receptive understanding.
