日月燈明佛因妙光菩薩以說《法華經》，釋迦牟尼佛因文殊師利以說《法華經》，既有開教之功，故列在初也。

Candrasūryapradīpa Buddha preached the Lotus Sūtra because of Bodhisattva Varaprabha (Miaoguang), and Śākyamuni Buddha preached the Lotus Sūtra because of Mañjuśrī. Since he had the merit of opening the teaching, he is listed first.
