《大品》顯教菩薩作佛，其義易解，以菩薩無自保之執，又菩薩利根故也。此經顯教聲聞，聲聞有自保之執又是鈍根，故因文殊以開經也。文殊此言妙德，以了了見於佛性故，德無不圓、累無不盡，稱妙德也。

The Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra explicitly taught bodhisattvas how to become buddhas; its meaning was easy to understand because bodhisattvas lack the attachment of self-preservation and are moreover of sharp faculties. This sūtra explicitly teaches śrāvakas; śrāvakas possess the attachment of self-preservation and are moreover of dull faculties; hence the sūtra is opened through Mañjuśrī. 'Mañjuśrī' is translated here as 'Wondrous Virtue' (Miaode): because he clearly sees the Buddha-nature, his virtues are completely perfect and his defilements are completely extinguished, hence he is called 'Wondrous Virtue.'
