The text of the Introductory Chapter is brief and its explained meaning is unmixed, so it is simply named the Introductory Chapter. The text of the main teaching is long and its explained meaning is broad, so the general name is set aside and it receives designations according to specific meanings; dissemination is also like this. Within these three sections, each is divided into two parts. The introduction opens into two: first, the introduction proving faith; second, the initiating introduction. Proving faith causes future sentient beings to produce faith in the scripture; initiating utilizes various miraculous wonders to initiate the main scripture, benefiting the present; because transformation touches both periods, both introductions are explained. The main teaching has two: starting from the Expedient Means [Chapter] and ending with the Dharma Master Chapter explains the upāya of the vehicle and the reality of the vehicle; next, from the Apparition of the Jeweled Stūpa to the evaluation of merit in the Distinction of Merits [Chapter] explains the upāya of the body and the reality of the body. Why are these two opened? The vehicle refers to the Dharma that is ridden; the body refers to the person who is able to ride it. Possessing these two gates, the meaning of the vehicle is then complete.
