From 'If, furthermore, there is a person' onward is the second section, which next explains the praise of the teaching. This again opens into two parts: first, praising the entire sūtra as a whole; second, specifically praising this one chapter. Praising the entire sūtra as a whole also has four parts: first, praise by comparative assessment; second, praise with respect to the teaching; third, praise by eradication of evil; fourth, praise by generation of good. From 'Just as' onward is the second, praise of the teaching. In all, it presents ten similes, beginning with mountains and oceans and ending with the Buddhas, ascending from lower to higher. Although the ten similes differ, they can also be combined into five pairs: first, mountains and oceans; second, sun and moon; third, devas and humans; fourth, ordinary beings and sages; fifth, Buddhas and bodhisattvas. From 'This sūtra can save' onward is the third, praise in terms of persons with respect to the gateway of eradicating evil. From 'If a person can hear' onward is the fourth, praise by generation of good.
