11.36

品為二：初問，次答。問有長行與偈。彌勒發問者，隨喜、迴向是菩薩法門，是故大士為物發問。所以的言佛滅後者，為正不值佛世眾生望岸自絕者也。

The chapter has two parts: first the question, then the answer. The question consists of prose and verses. As for Maitreya raising the question: rejoicing in accord and dedication [of merit] are bodhisattva Dharma-gates, and for this reason the Great Being raises the question on behalf of beings. The reason he specifically mentions "after the Buddha's extinction" is for the sake of those sentient beings who, not meeting the Buddha's era, would see the shore as cut off from themselves.
