11.55

小乘人云肉眼但見色法也。天眼通因天眼為方便，故發天眼智能知未來生死等事。《法華論》云「六根淨者於一一根中具足六用」，是故眼根亦知業行及果報也。

People of the Hīnayāna say that the fleshly eye only sees form-dharmas. The supernormal power of the heavenly eye takes the heavenly eye as an expedient means, and therefore it generates the wisdom of the heavenly eye, which can know matters such as future birth and death. The Fahua lun says, 'When the six faculties are purified, each individual faculty fully possesses the six functions'; therefore the eye faculty also knows karmic practices and retributions.
