The time of the seven perils is short and urgent, leaving no leisure to pay homage or make offerings, nor leisure to quiet the mind in concentrated stillness; one can only recite the name. The time of the three poisons is long and difficult to sever, inevitably requiring the path of remedy, hence constant recollection. Lacking a son or daughter differs from the above two kinds, hence paying homage and making offerings. Furthermore, the name Avalokiteśvara is complete with both practice and vows, hence initially it directs one to recite the name; the remaining two names possess practice but lack vows, hence they are placed later. Between these two names, the mind is the root and the body is the branch, so there is again a sequence.
