There are seven kinds of comparison: 1. the ordinary falls short of the noble, as the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā states, “teaching one person to attain the first fruit surpasses teaching the people of Jambudvīpa to practice the ten good deeds”; 2. the lesser falls short of the greater, as the two vehicles fall short of the bodhisattva; 3. the shallow falls short of the deep, as shallow practice falls short of exalted practice; 4. the cause falls short of the fruit, as the bodhisattva falls short of the buddha; 5. having attainment falls short of non-attainment, as the worldly six perfections fall short of the supramundane six perfections; 6. the branches fall short of the root, as the five perfections, though without attainment, ultimately fall short of prajñā, because prajñā is the root; 7. lacking affinity falls short of having affinity, as the Buddha converting Subhadra falls short of Ānanda. Which comparison is this here?
