Among the three kinds of world, it refers precisely to the world of sentient beings. Non-Buddhist books state: "That which forms pattern from sound is called tone (*yin*)." The Buddha Dharma does not distinguish tone (*yin*) as different from sound (*sheng*). As the *Abhidharma-saṃyuktābhidharma-hṛdaya Śāstra* says: "Sounds are of three kinds: first, sounds derived from appropriated four great elements, which are the sounds of sentient beings; second, sounds derived from non-appropriated four great elements, which are the sounds of non-sentient beings; third, sounds derived from both, as when humans and external objects together produce sound, such as striking a bell, etc. Among the three kinds of sounds, it may apply to the remaining two as well."
