欲明東方諸佛說三乘之後唯說一乘，將彼顯此釋迦說三乘之後亦說一乘。既說一乘即是但教菩薩，故《法華經》名「教菩薩法佛所護念」。至此以來凡頌三種菩薩，上云「教諸菩薩無數億萬」，謂根本法輪菩薩；次「若有佛子修種種行」，此是支末法輪三乘中菩薩。今謂攝末歸本一乘菩薩。

It is intended to clarify that after the buddhas of the eastern direction have taught the triyāna, they teach only the ekayāna; by using that to reveal this, it shows that Śākyamuni, after teaching the triyāna, likewise teaches the ekayāna. Since he teaches the ekayāna, this means he instructs only bodhisattvas; therefore the Lotus Sūtra is called "the Dharma for instructing bodhisattvas, which the Buddhas protect and keep in mind." Up to this point, three kinds of bodhisattvas have been versified in all: above, "instructed countless hundreds of millions of bodhisattvas" refers to the bodhisattvas of the fundamental wheel of the Dharma; next, "if there are Buddha's disciples who cultivate various practices" refers to the bodhisattvas within the triyāna of the branch wheel of the Dharma; here, it refers to the ekayāna bodhisattvas who integrate the branches back into the root.
