From "Again seeing those complete in precepts" below is the second, explaining the practice of precepts. Vigor universally spurs all practices, and precepts are the foundation of myriad virtues. Here, guarding against the evils of ordinary persons, the two vehicles, and having attainments is called "precepts." Upholding the naturally grave precepts is called "complete in precepts"; not violating social criticism and suspicion is termed "deportment without defect." Regarding the precepts, there are three [aspects]: first, the sense of purity is like a pearl; second, being round, upright, and without defect is like a pearl; third, the precepts being precious and worthy of esteem is like a pearl.
