「諸善男子」下，第三、廣引過去事釋答。釋答者，上雖引過去事，未知的是何佛，故今別出其事。上即是總標為章門，今廣引即釋章門。就文亦二：第一、明過去佛說《法華》前事；第二、明說《法華》已去事。所以分此二事者，上明東方現在諸佛，彌勒開為二事；今文殊引過去佛，亦有二事，欲顯釋迦亦有斯二事也。

From "Good men" onward is the third: broadly citing past events to explain the reply. Explaining the reply means: although past events were cited above, it was not yet known specifically which Buddha it was; hence he now specifically brings forth the events. The above was generally setting it up as a thematic section, and now broadly citing it explains the thematic section. Regarding the text, there are also two parts: first, clarifying the events before the past Buddha preached the Lotus Sūtra; second, clarifying the events from when the Lotus Sūtra was preached onward. The reason for dividing these two matters is that, above, regarding the present Buddhas of the east, Maitreya divided them into two matters; now, when Mañjuśrī cites the past Buddha, there are also two matters, intending to reveal that Śākyamuni also has these two matters.
