"For the sake of those seeking the śrāvaka vehicle": second, explaining the triyāna teaching. Among the conditions of ancient Buddhas, there were also those unable to receive the one; therefore, on the basis of the one, they preached the three. According to the Abhidharma school, although the practices of the three vehicles differ, they equally view the four noble truths to accomplish the fruits of the three vehicles. According to the Tattvasiddhi school, the three vehicles equally view the single truth of cessation to accomplish the fruits of the three vehicles. As for pratyekabuddhas contemplating causes and conditions, this is merely a remote condition for practicing contemplation and awakening to the path during the causal stage. According to the Mahāyāna, the three vehicles equally contemplate the true mark; therefore the Zhengguan lun states: "There are three kinds of those who attain the true mark; it is only because faculties are sharp or dull, and their seeing of emptiness is shallow or deep, that the three are opened." Here the text says "preaching the Dharma corresponding to the four noble truths" because the faculties and the teaching match each other, hence it says "corresponding."
