The Book [of Documents] says: 'When an enlightened ruler instructs the world with filial piety and benevolence, the red crow soars and the old man appears; when benevolent virtue nurtures beings, sweet springs well forth and auspicious grain grows; when the one-horned beast emerges, all under heaven is at peace; when governance wins the hearts of the people, interlocking plums grow. Thus, when virtue fills within, omens are expressed without.' Now, what does each of these three omens signify?
