《大品》望昔教，阿難易解，以菩薩是大人，還明大人作佛，故阿難解之，所以《大品》付囑阿難。《法華》明二乘作佛，異於昔教，於聲聞難解，故《法華》不付囑阿難。

With respect to the previous teachings, the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra was easy for Ānanda to understand; because bodhisattvas are great persons, and it still clarifies that great persons attain Buddhahood, Ānanda understood it; therefore the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra was entrusted to Ānanda. The Lotus Sūtra clarifies that the two vehicles attain Buddhahood, which differs from the previous teachings and was difficult for the śrāvakas to understand; therefore the Lotus Sūtra was not entrusted to Ānanda.
