此非九十八使。何以知之？羅漢之人四住惑傾而猶未解一實，故知非九十八使也。五住之中正是無明住地，二障之中為智障惑。就此惑中開為三品：輕品之惑障於上根，次品之惑障於中根，重品之惑障於下根。

This is not the ninety-eight latent defilements. How is this known? For arhats, the afflictions of the four stages of dwelling have collapsed, yet they still have not understood the one reality; hence we know it is not the ninety-eight latent defilements. Among the five stages of dwelling, it is precisely the stage of dwelling of fundamental ignorance; among the two hindrances, it is the delusion of the cognitive hindrance. Within this delusion, three grades are opened: the light grade of delusion obstructs the sharp faculties; the intermediate grade of delusion obstructs the middling faculties; the heavy grade of delusion obstructs the dull faculties.
