4.36

若昔大乘明菩薩授記作佛，既是真實教者，聲聞藉《波若》等經調柔其心，然後始得悟入《法華》，則知《波若》為《法華》方便，豈是真實教？

If the past Mahāyāna's clarification of conferring prophecies on bodhisattvas to become Buddhas was indeed the real teaching, and yet śrāvakas relied on sūtras such as the Prajñā[pāramitā] to soften and tame their minds, and only afterward were able to awaken and enter into the Lotus [Sūtra], then one knows that the Prajñā[pāramitā] is an upāya for the Lotus [Sūtra]; how could it be the real teaching?
