4.46

就文為二：第一、先明諸佛唯為大事故出世不為小事，第二、引證釋成。初文又二：前開兩章門，次釋兩章門。前一偈標唯為大事出世章門，次半行明不為小事出章門。前偈上半標為大事故出世，下半舉真偽釋成。以唯一事實餘二則非真，是故諸佛但為一事故出世。

Regarding the text, there are two parts: first, clarifying that all Buddhas appear in the world solely for the sake of the great matter and not for the sake of the small matter; second, citing proof to explain and complete it. The initial text also has two parts: first opening the two chapter-headings, and next explaining the two chapter-headings. The first verse sets forth the chapter-heading of appearing in the world solely for the sake of the great matter; the next half-line clarifies the chapter-heading of not appearing in the world for the sake of the small matter. The first half of the preceding verse sets forth appearing in the world for the sake of the great matter; the second half adduces the true and the false to explain and complete it. Because only the one is real while the other two are not true, therefore all Buddhas appear in the world only for the sake of the one matter.
