4.60

靈山一會迴小入大菩薩同入一乘，自爾已前令直往菩薩授記作佛，一期出世唯此二人普令作佛，則是一期願滿，如上引〈涌出品〉文證之。正意者，法華之前但得為菩薩一人說佛乘，則佛願未滿；今並為五乘六道眾生並令成佛，故佛願滿。又為人說一乘即是暢佛意，亦名為滿也。

In the single assembly on Vulture Peak, those who turned from the small entered the great, and the bodhisattvas entered the ekayāna together; prior to that, he had conferred prophecies of Buddhahood upon bodhisattvas who proceeded directly. Throughout this one lifetime of appearing in the world, he caused universally only these two kinds of people to attain Buddhahood, and this constituted the fulfillment of the vow for this lifetime, as proven by the passage cited above from the "Emerging from the Earth Chapter." In terms of the principal intent: prior to the Lotus Sūtra, he could only expound the Buddha vehicle for the solitary bodhisattva, so the Buddha's vow was not yet fulfilled; now, he expounds it for beings of the five vehicles and the six destinies and causes them all to attain Buddhahood, so the Buddha's vow is fulfilled. Furthermore, expounding the ekayāna for people expresses the Buddha's intent, and is thus also called "fulfillment."
