4.77

「是故舍利弗」下，第三、明不得說一故方便說三也。「說諸盡苦道」謂道諦也。「示之以涅槃」即滅諦，略舉出世因果。

From "For this reason, Śāriputra" onward, third, it is explained that because he could not preach the one, he expediently preached the three. "Preaching the path that exhausts suffering" refers to the truth of the path. "Showing them nirvāṇa" refers to the truth of cessation. This briefly cites supramundane cause and effect.
