4.86

良由今果異昔果，故得今因異昔因耳。又昔小滅非真滅，今大滅是真滅，方得勸捨小滅以求大滅，蓋正是一乘之大宗也。

Precisely because the present fruit differs from the past fruit, the present cause can differ from the past cause. Furthermore, the past lesser cessation was not true cessation, whereas the present great cessation is true cessation; only then can one be exhorted to abandon the lesser cessation to seek the great cessation, which is indeed the great principal theme of the ekayāna.
