授應身記即是授法身記,修因既滿便證法身,方能以本垂迹,託淨穢國土成佛化人,但法身猶如虛空無所不在,引物不便故不授法身記。應身有國土、徒眾、化主、教門,引物義便故記之也。
Conferring prophecy of the nirmāṇakāya is itself conferring prophecy of the dharmakāya. Once the cultivation of causes is fulfilled, one immediately realizes the dharmakāya, and only then can one trace manifestations from the fundamental source, relying upon pure or defiled lands to become a Buddha and transform sentient beings. However, the dharmakāya is like empty space, having nowhere it does not exist; because it is not expedient for guiding beings, prophecy is not conferred regarding the dharmakāya. The nirmāṇakāya has a land, followers, a transforming master, and a doctrinal gate; because it is suitable for the purpose of guiding beings, prophecy is conferred regarding it.
