Listing five hundred people and further explaining thirty sons: the five hundred people generally parable the sentient beings of the five destinies, and the thirty sons specifically explain those who formerly received transformation. The reason both general and specific kinds of sentient beings are fully explained is because he fully transforms both kinds of people: first, specifically transforming people of intermediate and lower faculties to make them recognize the provisional and real of the three and the one; second, generally for the sake of all sentient beings to make them know the faults and perils of the three realms. Furthermore, this sūtra causes all sentient beings to leave the stage of ordinary persons and further leave the stage of the two vehicles; by expounding the faults and perils of the three realms, it causes beings not to covet the three realms, which is called leaving the stage of ordinary persons; later, explaining that the sons go out of the gate seeking carriages and do not obtain them, and are equally bestowed the great carriages, causes them to know that the two vehicles are an empty fist and the ekayāna is real, causing them to leave the stage of the two vehicles. For this reason, he fully transforms both kinds of people.
