具見通別二子起大悲心：一者、通見五道眾生無樂有苦；二者、別見三十子昔曾稟化應得離苦，而背化起惑更受煮燒，故起悲也。

Seeing both the general and the specific children, he gives rise to the mind of great compassion. First, generally seeing the sentient beings of the five destinies having no joy and experiencing only suffering; second, specifically seeing the thirty children who had received his teaching in the past and ought to have escaped suffering, yet turned their backs on the teaching, generated delusions, and again suffered boiling and burning; therefore he gives rise to compassion.
