From "The messenger told him" downwards is the second, directly ceasing the teaching. It also has two clauses: first, explaining that the great teaching is no longer applied to the small capacity is called "I now release you." "Go wherever you wish" means according with the small capacity to practice the small teaching. From "The destitute son rejoiced" downwards is the second, ceasing the great and conferring the small to suit his root inclination. It also has two clauses: first, understanding the cessation of the great; next, understanding the conferral of the small. Because the great teaching did not suit the small capacity, it was like being imprisoned, and therefore he was frightened; ceasing the great conversion suited his root inclination, so in his heart he gave rise to joy. "Arising from the ground" understands the conferral of the small teaching. Being dragged toward the father's place was why he collapsed to the ground; being released, he therefore arose to walk. Not practicing the Mahāyāna is like collapsing to the ground; being capable of cultivating the small teaching is like arising to walk.
