善吉、迦葉各有一能，善吉有轉教之功，迦葉有持法之用，是以二人前後互出也。
Shanji and Kāśyapa each possess a specific competence: Shanji has the function of transmitting the teaching, while Kāśyapa has the utility of upholding the Dharma. Therefore the two individuals appear alternately before and after.
