Sixth, as for the section on similarities and differences, there are overall seven differences. First is the difference between brief and extensive: Śāriputra's expression of understanding was brief, whereas those of medium capacity stated their awakening extensively. Second is the difference between distant and near: Śāriputra recently recounted the present, while Kāśyapa distantly recounted the remote past. Moreover, Śāriputra's recounting of the present only ran from the Deer Park onward up to the Lotus Sūtra, whereas Kāśyapa began from the Avataṃsaka Sūtra onward and culminated in the teaching of the ekayāna. Third is the difference between general and specific: Śāriputra specifically recounted his own person, whereas Kāśyapa generally set forth the entire assembly. Fourth is the difference between absence and presence: previously there was no parabolic explanation, whereas now there is. Fifth is the difference between few and many: previously he only recounted the three teachings, whereas now they fully recount the five vehicles. Sixth is the difference in joy: Śāriputra grieved in the past and rejoiced in the present, whereas Kāśyapa did not harbor grief in the past, but now, having unexpectedly obtained a great treasure without ever having sought it in mind, gave rise to joy.
