《法華論》云「二乘有佛性法身故授記，非修行具足是故與記。若菩薩有佛性法身又修行具足，是故與記」，故大小得記不同。

The Fahua lun states: 'The two vehicles have the Buddha-nature and the dharmakāya, and are therefore conferred with prophecy; it is not because their cultivation and practice are complete that they are conferred with prophecy. Bodhisattvas have the Buddha-nature and the dharmakāya and also have complete cultivation and practice, and are therefore conferred with prophecy.' Thus, the receiving of prophecy by the great and the small differs.
