As explained in several places in the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra: first, difficulty and ease are explained in terms of having upāya or lacking upāya. Because one lacks upāya, it is difficult; because one has upāya, it is easy. Difficulty and ease simply arise from these two conditions; bodhi in reality has neither difficulty nor ease. Furthermore, the approach of conventional truth explains that bodhi is difficult to attain, whereas the approach of ultimate truth explains that bodhi is easy to attain. Moreover, for the sake of sentient beings who hold the Buddha-Way in slight regard, it is said that bodhi is difficult to attain; for the sake of sentient beings who dread the long expanse of saṃsāra, it is said that bodhi is easy to attain.
