道場有二種：一者、法身道場；二者、應身道場。法身道場者，道謂三菩提果道也，場謂萬行也。如《淨名經》說由萬行故能成三菩提道，是故因行為果道之場也。應身道場者，摩竭提界元吉樹下起道之處為道場也。

There are two kinds of sites of enlightenment: first, the dharmakāya site of enlightenment; second, the responsive body (nirmāṇakāya) site of enlightenment. As for the dharmakāya site of enlightenment, the 'Way' refers to the fruit-way of sambodhi, and the 'site' refers to the myriad practices. As the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa Sūtra states, because of the myriad practices one is able to accomplish the Way of sambodhi; therefore causal practice is the site for the fruit-way. As for the responsive body site of enlightenment, the place where the Way was actualized beneath the yuangu tree in the realm of Magadha is the site of enlightenment.
